It’s not happening every day, but, from time to time, you will receive overnight guests and no matter how well you know them, you have to do your best to make them feel welcomed. Preparing the most comfortable environment in the guest bedroom is the first thing that says you are the perfect host.
Your guests are not expecting 5-star hotel amenities, but you need to take into consideration some aspects to make sure they have a pleasant stay.
Air the room and change the sheets
Before your guests arrive, leave the window open for at least an hour. And even though no one used the bed, change the sheets. No one enjoys sleeping on dusty linen.
Provide lots of pillows
Some guests prefer sleeping with their head up, some don’t like pillows at all, but you have to give them the possibility to choose. Provide a lot of pillows, in different sizes and levels of softness, and let them choose what suits them best.
Make sure the room has multiple power outlets
Your guests might need to charge their phones or use the laptop. It wouldn’t hurt to have two extra chargers you can put at their disposal (one micro-usb and one for iPhone, they are the most common).
Provide towels and essentials
You are not a hotel, but you should provide your guests with towels, soap, shampoo and toothpaste. No one likes to carry that kind of stuff in the suitcase.
Your guests might not be used to the temperature in your house, so make sure you provide them an extra blanket they can use in case they get cold.
When sleeping somewhere else than home, the nightstand becomes the station where you put everything you own. Think about what you’re doing when you are staying in a hotel. Make sure you have nightstands in the guest bedroom.
An alarm clock
Not everyone uses the cell phone to wake up in the morning, so make sure there is an alarm clock in the room.
This is not at all mandatory, but if you want to leave a good impression, some freshly cut flowers in the room will do wonderfully.
