If you are the owner of of a house with more than one story, the staircase might definitely be something you can be proud of. Most likely, you already spent a lot of time deciding on the staircase shape, you chose the most appropriate material, but we are wondering if you ever thought that it may be more than just a way to go from one level to another.
If the staircase goes through your living room you can build a bookcase in the space beneath it.
You don’t need a lot of space to go through with this; all it takes is a little ingenuity. Place the shelves at uneven heights and they can beautifully accommodate books or, why not, decorative items. The only thing you need to take into account is the way that the assembly mounted under the stairs will coordinate with the rest of the room.
Also under the staircase running through your living room, you can arrange a space for the audio-video system or even a small desk accompanied by simple wall shelves.
If the staircase is passing through the kitchen, you can use the space beneath it to mount shelves and drawers that will accommodate cooking utensils, spices, pots and even your collection of magazines you use for inspiration when preparing a new meal.
Of course, there are more sophisticated ideas to use the space, like including a certain piece of the furniture, the refrigerator or even the stove. For these, however, you will need the help of an architect to properly prepare all the necessary: water supply, electrical wiring, vents etc.
The staircase passing through the lobby can be equipped with sliding drawers where you can keep clothes and shoes you wear outside, but also lots of other little things. You will be able to give up the classic peg and you will also gain a valuable free area you can use. And since we mentioned the drawers, here’s another idea: they can be integrated in the actual steps as well.
