If you want your bedroom to have a special charm and, perhaps, a royal air, a four-poster bed might just be the perfect option, as it brings a lot of elegance and romance in the bedroom.
A long time ago, this type of bed was more practical than aesthetic: it offered privacy, maintained thermal comfort and protected the owners from insects. Today, people are buying this bed from aesthetic reasons, therefore you need to choose something that represents your personality.
You can find hundreds of models in stores and you have to keep in mind drapes and curtains are not mandatory, as the special ornaments could be the center of attention.
- The classic model was inspired by the Victorian era. Its defining characteristics are the frames made out of wood or wrought iron, beautiful and orderly crafted, with heavy curtains embroidered with complicated patterns. The frames can be made out of brown or white carved wood. The advantages of wood are already well known: it passed the the test of time and its value increases with age. For a spectacular look, you can choose curtains that are longer than the pillars. These will create an amazing waterfall effect.
- In its composition, the contemporary model is a lot simpler. It can be made out of plain wood (no carvings) or wrought iron, and the curtains can be tailored from much lighter materials, such as silk or cotton. Besides, it is not mandatory to surround the bed with curtains; you can very well choose to decorate just the headboard.
- The modern four-poster bed uses silhouettes and curved shapes instead of the classic frames. The curtains are often only suggested and almost always asymmetrical.
You also need to know that, contrary to the popular opinion, this type of bed is not destined exclusively to the large rooms. It is also appropriate for smaller chambres, where it will enhance the visual effect. Also, you could consider placing one in the garden as well.
