The Rockabilly is one of the earliest rock and roll styles, specific to the 50s in the US, especially in the southern region. Being one of the most iconic periods (with promoters like Elvis Presley), the style will most definitely remain evergreen. And we are not talking just about the music, but about clothing, decorations and, generally, about the way of living.
There are certain groups of people who live now, in 2014, like their predecessors lived in the 50s. They conserved the styles and they refuse to use the new technologies. This is very extreme and we wouldn’t recommend anyone to do it, but, an infusion of the Rockabilly era into our living rooms would make them truly special.
Here are some pointers to help you design the perfect Rockabilly living room:
- Wallpapers. First of all, you should rather use wallpapers than paint, for a more authentic look. When it comes to colors, pink and light green were very popular during the period, so they will do perfectly.

- Furniture. The 50s were all about light colored wood and clean lines. Organic shapes and bold textures can also be beautifully integrated. You may also want to use another of the period’s symbols, the vinyl, but pay attention and make sure you keep an overall classy look.
- Flooring. A classic design would include linoleum, but, as practical as it may be, we find it a poor choice from an aesthetic point of view. You might choose, as a replacement, a light wood floor (perhaps Bamboo) and a carpet with stripes in pale colors.
