The emotions related to the anxious expectation of the new family member are always accompanied by the fuss of preparation. So you just bought the furniture for your baby’s room, you already have an idea on what goes where, what else is there to do? Carefully consider everything again!
Without any shred of doubt, the crib settlement is one of the most important aspects to be considered. First of all, it has to be away from the windows, because of the unwanted light and air draft; placing it against a wall is the best option. If the place allows it, place it perpendicularly onto the wall, so you can have easy access on both long sides. Besides, the remaining space can be used for other important furniture pieces.
The changing table
This object is simply indispensable when you have a newborn, and it must be placed really close to the clothes storage space, so you can have easy access to everything you need. Take into account the importance of a power outlet nearby. There will be many electrically-powered items you will have to use. The best example is a lamp.
Wardrobe and toy storage
Time passes quicker than you would think and your precious child will need increasingly more clothes, not to talk about the toys, which will basically invade you. Wall mounted shelves could prove to be the perfect solution for storage-related issues. If the space is rather small and you really want a wardrobe, make sure you pick one that’s rather tall than wide, so you can take advantage of the vertical space.
Other aspects to be considered:
- if you have curtains and drapes tied with ribbon, make sure the little fellow doesn’t reach them
- try placing the crib (and furniture) away from heating devices or vents, to prevent exposing your baby to sudden temperature changes
- when painting or decorating the room, plan the furniture placement in advance so you don’t have to cover motifs
Remember, as a new mommy or daddy, you don’t have much time, so everything needs to be efficient.
